Senate hearing, executive session and floor vote

Governor Sununu gets the bill...

HB619 Facts

What HB619 as amended by the House does

Pause these surgeries until age 18

Put the limit on doctors, not parents or kids

Hold transgender care to the same scientific standard as other medical specialties

Narrowly define genital gender reassignment surgery to protect care for injury, cancer, intersex or male circumcision

Kids aren't small adults, and kids with suppressed puberty are different medically than the adults who have had this surgery for decades

New Hampshire Waits Until 18

What HB619 as amended by the House doesn't do

Change the existing conversion therapy ban

Impact puberty blockers or hormone therapy

Change school policies

What people say about it

"Activists are attempting to silence any dissent or questions about these surgeries. And the overwhelming message is that these surgeries in kids are lifesaving care — despite no evidence to support this claim. Now, there is no reasonable expectation of informed consent.

Is it any wonder that more than 20 states have passed laws protecting minors from this procedure?

When even asking a question is an act of defiance, it is the job of the legislature to tell the doctors licensed by virtue of our laws that they have to wait until a patient is 18 to offer this surgery.

To borrow a phrase, it is common sense scalpel control."

“This is not a question of whether or not you're with the trans community. This is a question on whether or not you believe children should be able to get these irreversible surgeries. So, again, despite being a Democrat, despite being a liberal who believes in human rights, I don't think that children should be able to get these irreversible surgeries.

So I'll take all the heat that comes from this. I will be voting for this amendment and for OTPA if it the bill in its original form, I think is too broad. And I won't be voting for OTP, but I will be voting for OTPA if the bill passes and for the amendment if it passes. And I hope all of you on this side of the aisle who definitely believe in human rights, who believe in protecting nondiscrimination, would consider the irreversible surgeries that kids are going to be getting if this bill does not pass."

We need your help to fight and win to protect kids!

The opposition is doubling down with misinformation by saying this is vital care and gaslighting kids, their parents and the public to think these surgeries are safe.

There are no studies on these surgeries. Don't experiment on NH kids!
We must stand together today against what could be the medical atrocity of our time.

What about parent's rights?

Parents give informed consent, which means they need to understand the risks and benefits

Pushback against this bill shows the popular misunderstanding about this procedure, meaning parents think it is safe with no data

There are no data, so risks and benefits are unknown

If a parent wants this brand new, untested and unstudied procedure they can seek out the surgical centers of excellence and travel to obtain the best surgical outcome possible
